Dr Nele Kortendiek, former doctoral candidate and research fellow at the Institute for Political Science, has received the award for the best doctoral dissertation from the German Political Science Association (DVPW). The prize comes with 1,000 Euros in prize money and is awarded annually. Nele’s PhD thesis with the title „Knowledge, Practice, Governance – How International Organisations Govern Mixed Migration in and through Professional Practice Learning at the European External Border“ was supervised by Prof Jens Steffek and had already won the prize of the Friends of TU Darmstadt for an outstanding doctoral dissertation. The doctoral thesis will be published as a monograph later this year by Oxford University Press, entitled „Global Governance on the Ground. Organizing International Migration and Asylum at the Border“. Nele is currently senior research fellow at Goethe University Frankfurt and will take up a Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellowship at the European University Institute in September.
