Examinations

Information on examination matters can be found in the General Examination Regulations of Technical University of Darmstadt (opens in new tab) (APB).

If the examination you want to register for is not displayed in the section Examination > My Examinations > Registration for Examinations, please check whether you have selected the correct semester in which you registered for the module (in the case of module final examinations) or for the course (in the case of course-related examinations).

If the exam is displayed under Examinations > My Examinations > Exams offered for registration but there is no link to register, please check first in the exam details whether the registration deadline has already expired.

If you are still within the registration deadline, please check whether you have selected the correct semester in which you registered for the module (for module final examinations) or the course.

If after checking this, you are still unable to sign up for an examination in TUCaN, please contact the Office for Student Affairs .

Registration for examinations can usually be made up to 8 days before the examination date. If it is not possible to register in TUCaN, please contact the Office for Student Affairs within the examination registration period.

The TU Darmstadt allows all departments to define the exam registration periods themselves, which is why the registration and deregistration deadlines can vary from department to department. The deadline that is published in TUCaN for the corresponding exam always applies. Please be sure to observe the registration and deregistration deadlines, which you can view in the exam details.

You have to submit the medical certificate to the Office for Student Affairs within 3 days after the examination date. This also applies if the exam takes place at another department. The submission can be made in paper form or electronically. This is the only way to withdraw from the examination due to illness in accordance with §15(2) APB in due time.

If the above mentioned documents are not submitted within the deadline, then all exam performances for which a withdrawal should be requested will be evaluated as “insufficient” (5,0), since the exam date was missed without excuse. This also eliminates the possibility of an oral supplementary examination for third examinations attempts.

Further information

According to §15 Abs. 1 APB, withdrawal from an examination is usually possible up to 7 days before the examination date.

In exceptional cases, this withdrawal deadline can be brought forward; please note possible deviations! You can find the deadline for the de-registration period in the examination details in TUCaN.

Example: The exam will take place on 22 May. Withdrawal without giving reasons is therefore usually possible until 14 May at 11:59 pm.

You have to de-register from the exam in TUCaN within the section Examinations > My examinations. Further information.

Performance Records / Grades

Grades are entered by the examiners and then published on the web portal by the Office of Student Affairs of your department. If grades do not appear in TUCaN, it may be that they have not yet been entered by the examiner or are not yet published by the Office of Student Affairs.

Grades will only appear in the transcript of records if the corresponding module is finished. If you already finished the corresponding module and the grade is visible in your examination results but not in your transcript of records, please contact the Office for Student Affairs.

You can display and print out an overview of your performance yourself at any time in TUCaN in the section Examinations -> Performance Record.

If you request an official transcript of records from the Office for Student Affairs, please fill out the contact form, preferably stating why you need a transcript of records (e.g. to use it to apply for another university). Processing may take 2-3 business days. The transcript of records is generated by machine and is valid without a stamp or signature.

You submit the form in paper form, blank forms will not be processed. The form is processed in the Office for Student Affairs and submitted to the Vice Chairperson, Academic Affairs for signature.

Please note since 17.09.2015 the following calculation basis for the benefit certificate according to §48 BaföG (form 5): Calculation basis are only factually performed performances (without open performances). To confirm the certificate of achievement, 75 CP are required for semesters 1-3 including the achievements from the 4th semester, which are already available.

Requests & Acknowledgements

All applications/requests to the examination boards must be submitted to the Office for Student Affairs. Applications/requests submitted directly to the chairpersons of the examination boards will not be processed at all or with a delay, since they also have to go through the Office for Student Affairs.

All requests for acknowledgement are received in the Office for Student Affairs and will be forwarded to the appropriate person.

Students submit a detailed, written and signed application to the examination board. The application should be accompanied by a copy of all the required evidence of the achievement. The application should also state in which module the achievement is to be recognized. The application must be submitted to the Office for Student Affairs. The examination board decides on the application.

Theses & Final documents

TUbama (TU Bachelor and Master Theses) is the digital archive for Bachelor and Master theses at TU Darmstadt. It is the archive for all student theses and the Bachelor or Master’s thesis needs to be uploaded here by the specified deadline in order to satisfy the requirements for the submission of an electronic copy of the thesis (§ 23 (7) of the General Examination Regulations (APB) at TU Darmstadt).

Using TUbama to submit theses for the purpose of electronic archiving is obligatory for all students. Your thesis has to be submitted as an electronic copy only. Further information: Submitting theses in electronic form.

Your thesis has to be submitted as an electronic copy only. Please observe the submission of all documents on time! The signed and scanned “Declaration of Final Thesis” must be integrated into the electronically submitted thesis as well as submitted as an additional document to the Office for Student Affairs. Paper copies of theses are not to be handed in.

The assessment procedure must not exceed six weeks (cf. APB §26 (3)).

We strongly recommend retaining student status until passing the final examination and applying for de-registration after grades have been awarded at the end of the relevant semester. The number of subject-related semesters and university semesters will not be specified on the certificate or grade transcripts.

The issuance of graduation documents is not an automated process, especially since the last achievement not always represents an individual examination (such as the evaluation of the Thesis). For this reason, please contact the Office for Student Affairs and ask for issuance of the final documents as soon as you have taken your last examination.

Other

The Office for Student Affairs from Department 2 is responsible for all subject combinations in Joint Bachelor of Arts.

Term papers must always be handed in directly to the lecturers or to the corresponding Institute. The Office for Student Affairs is not responsible for receiving term papers.

Depending on which degree program you are enrolled in, you can either register for electives on your own via TUCaN (please refer to the corresponding instructions in TUCaN) or you have to contact the Office for Student Affairs.

The Statutes Supplement (Satzungsbeilagen) is the official publication organ of the TU Darmstadt. The Statutes Supplement contains all texts for the TU Darmstadt that must be officially published (statutes). These are primarily the regulations for the degree programs (implementation regulations, study and examination plan, module handbook) and the university-wide regulations (APB,PO/AT, etc.).
